Focus

The Focused Rural Development Programme (FRDP) strengthens livelihoods by helping farmers increase incomes through better production, value addition, and market linkages.

In Ratnagiri district, across the blocks of Lanja and Sangameshwar, the programme works with smallholder farmers to improve agricultural practices in crops such as mango, cashew, and vegetables, while also introducing income opportunities through crops like turmeric and red rice.

The programme supports farmers through:

Training in improved agricultural practices

Access to tools, inputs, and post-harvest infrastructure

Establishment of processing units for value addition

Strengthening farmer groups and producer organisations

Building market linkages for better price realisation

A key part of the programme is long-term handholding – enabling farmer groups to function independently and manage their own enterprises over time.

Through these efforts, farmers can increase productivity, retain more value from their produce, and reduce their dependence on migration.
