Programme Overview

Rural Communities across Maharashtra faced escalating environmental challenges such as unpredictable monsoon patterns, recurring droughts, depleting groundwater levels, soil degradation, declining farm yields, and rising plastic pollution, which have collectively pushed vulnerable populations, particularly women, smallholder farmers, and landless families, into deeper cycles of poverty and insecurity. Recognising the urgent need for a systemic, community-led response to these converging crises, PRIDE India has been promoting sustainable solutions to natural resource management and climate-resilient practices to protect ecosystems and livelihoods.

Success Stories

Success Stories

For years, the villages of Bapvali, Mamvali, and Gulde faced severe water scarcity, with damaged check dams and inadequate infrastructure leaving wells dry, farms struggling, and families, especially women, walking long distances for daily water. In response, PRIDE India repaired key check dams using technical expertise and community involvement, allowing effective rainwater storage and groundwater recharge. The results were immediate: wells were revived, households now receive water multiple times a day, and farmers can again irrigate their fields. What was once a cycle of scarcity has transformed into stability, dignity, and renewed hope, showing how sustainable water management can foster lasting rural resilience and community development.
