Water Conservation and Groundwater Recharge

Home / Project / Water Conservation and Groundwater Recharge

In water-scarce rural Maharashtra, access to reliable water has long hindered agriculture and development. PRIDE India implemented water conservation efforts, including the construction and rejuvenation of soak pits, check dams, and farm ponds in drought-prone villages. These structures enhanced rainwater percolation, recharged aquifers, and raised water tables. Consequently, farmers were trained to improve irrigation, enabling year-round crop cultivation. Villages that previously experienced seasonal migration due to water scarcity reported lower migration and higher agricultural productivity.
